Born in the former Yugoslavia, Sofija Krsteska performs regularly on various instruments of the violin family with renowned period ensembles, orchestras, and chamber music groups across Europe, South America, and Asia. She collaborates with ensembles such as Recreation Barock, Ārt House 17, Neue Hofkapelle Graz, Bach Consort Wien, as well as numerous chamber music formations.

Sofija has graduated with distinction from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, completing her Master’s degree in Baroque Violin under Univ.-Prof. Susanne Scholz. Previously, she earned a Master of Music at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade with Maja Jokanović, as well as a Master of Arts at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Vesna Stanković. Her artistic development was further shaped through masterclasses with renowned musicians including Erich Höbarth, Enrico Gatti, Odile Edouard, Reiner Honeck, Ernst Kovacic, Itzhak Rashkovsky, Sigiswald Kuijken, and William Christie.

Her extensive practical experience in historical performance practice, combined with in-depth research into original sources, allows her to interpret works from the 16th to the 21st century with stylistic precision and expressive freedom – both on modern and historical instruments.

Sofija is also a member of the concert series Frauen spielen Musik von Frauen, an initiative dedicated to performing works by women composers, with the aim of increasing their visibility and highlighting their often-overlooked contributions to music history.

In the field of pedagogy, Sofija is the founder of the ViolinSchule Graz, where she teaches and mentors musicians of all ages and levels on various instruments of the violin family.
